The ficus whitefly is capable of causing severe plant damage such as plant death or severe branch die-back.
The whitefly can seriously injure host plants by sucking juices from them causing wilting, yellowing, stunting, leaf drop, or even death.
Aside from defoliation, it is important to look for earlier signs of infestation such as eggs, nymphs, and adults on the underside of leaves. Shaking the limbs will cause the adult whiteflies to fly around unlike the gumbo limbo spiraling whitefly which is often seen flying without disturbing the branch.
